Mary M. Van Vlymen

Mary M. Van Vlymen, 93, of Lafayette, died at 1:26 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Central.
She was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Aroma, Ill., to the late Nelson and Wilma Bloomquist Van Derr Karr. She graduated from high school in Illinois.
Her first marriage was to A.J. Hall. They divorced. She later married Amos F. Brewer who died in September of 1969. In 1971 she married Henry Van Vlymen who preceded her in death in 1993.
She was an encoder for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for more than 20 years before retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Van Vlymen was a member of O.E.S in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and she enjoyed gardening, knitting and sewing.
Surviving are two sons Kent Brewer (wife: Mary Holtz) of Lafayette and Randy Hall (wife: Barbara) of Newbury Park, Calif.; and a daughter, Dr. Judy Hall-Modafferi (husband: Richard) of Vestal, N.Y.
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Benjamin and Elizabeth Brewer, Timothy and Tony Hall and Christopher Modafferi. She was preceded in death by a son, John Hall, a brother and a sister.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., with Pastor Sue Spurlin officiating. Entombment in Arlington National Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute to the Almost Home Humane Society
