On July 4th, 2015 Mary Kay, with the blessing of her Heavenly Father, passed away to be with her mother Marguerite, her father John, her son Scott, her sister Marthalove and her brother Johnnie. Mary Kay was a loving wife, a caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a devout Christian whose contributions to her church and community were boundless. She had a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and a Master's Degree in Counseling from Purdue University. She graduated from the Marion College Parish Nursing Program and worked many years as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Educator with St. Elizabeth Hospital. Mary Kay had taught nursing at Ivy Tech and was the past District Governor for Toastmaster's International. She was a master gardener and had also been a CASA for Tippecanoe County. She was a member of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and American Legion Auxiliary. Mary Kay is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles, son Steven Long (wife Jackie), daughter Kelly Stokes (husband Dan), daughter Jenny Cahoon (husband Jeff), grandchildren Katie and Brandon Schaffer, Alexandra and Nicholas Cahoon, great grandchildren Isabelle and Isaac Schaffer, and many relatives and friends that were a part of her beautiful life here on earth. She will be greatly missed by all. Visitation services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8th from 5-8pm at Christ United Methodist Church, at 3610 S. 18th Street (Northwest corner of Veterans Memorial Highway and 18th Street) in Lafayette. Funeral service will be at the same location on Thursday, July 9th at 10am. Contributions can be made in her name to the Christ United Methodist Sanctuary Fund or the American Heart Association.
