Mary Elizabeth Holtman

Mary Elizabeth Holtman, 95, of West Lafayette, Indiana, died at 4:20 AM Tuesday, August 14, 2013, at Heritage Health Care in West Lafayette. She was born February 24, 1918, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Gustav and Louise Schurman Holtman. A graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, she attended and graduated from Purdue University School of Home Economics. While at Purdue, she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Mary spent a few years with International Harvester as a Home Economist, in addition to grant work with Michigan State University, The Kellogg Foundation and The Ford Foundation. In her later years, she operated an infant care in her home. She also established Home Management Roundtable in a continuing effort to champion for the nuclear family with a strong emphasis on Christian principles. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gustav Theodore “Pete” (Roberta) Holtman, Lafayette, and Kenneth Holtman (Amelia) of Colorado, and her sister Ruth (Bud) Price, Lafayette. She is survived by her siblings Esther Cox, Ormond Beach, Florida, Carolyn Townsley, Carson City, Nevada, Doris Cottingham, Otterbein, Indiana and Frederick “Fritz” Holtman, Lafayette, Indiana. Visitation will be Thursday August 22,2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church West Lafayette from 1PM-2PM with service to follow at 2PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church ,Pastor Will Peugeot officiating.Burial at Spring Vale cemetery.
