Martha L. Cox

Martha L. Cox passed away peacefully on July 30 after having lived with dementia the last 9 years. She was born and raised in Waddy, KY to John and Mildred Miller who proceeded her in death. She earned a degree in Homemaking from Georgetown College and served as a County Extension Agent before she married Edwin H. Cox on October 10, 1964. Together they raised their children in the Klondike area.

She was very involved in her children’s lives as well as the community. She was an active 4-H leader, Boy Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, Extension Homemaker, Master Gardener, PEO sorority, PTO, Klondike and Harrison Athletic Booster, CASA Advocate, and served on many committees at First Baptist Church. She was most proud of starting and running First Books for Kids, a program that put books in the hands of underprivileged children. She also liked to garden, quilt, and ride snowmobiles. Proceeding her in death is her husband of 50 years, Edwin H. Cox, and her brother, Johnny Miller (Brenda) of Shelbyville, Ky. She is survived by her sister, Belva Aubrey (Don) of Green Valley, AZ. Also surviving her are her four children: Craig (Wendy) Cox of West Lafayette, Ellen (Dan) Grimm Jr of Evansville, Beth (Chris) Schlegel of Bolingbrook, IL and Sherry (Brian) Schwab of Indianapolis. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of Martha’s caregivers at Beehive Memory Care and the team at Elara Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in September.  Burial will be a private ceremony at Spring Vale Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana.
