Martha H. Courtney

Martha H. Courtney, 81, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Westminster Village in West Lafayette. She was born on April 27, 1945, in Lafayette, IN, to the late Harold and E. Virginia (Hubley) Cornell.

Marti graduated from East Tipp High School in 1963. On September 25, 1965, she married LaRue Courtney in Lafayette, Indiana and he survives.  Marti worked as an assistant manager for JCPenney and retired after 31 years.  She enjoyed reading and cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs. She and LaRue spent many years traveling throughout the United States.

Surviving along with her husband are her children Christina Courtney and Thomas Courtney, daughter-in-law Amy Courtney, grandchildren Brett (Melissa), Ashley (Nathan), Andrew (Robyn), and Courtney (Dakota) and great-grandchildren, Sophie, Maya, Helen and Carter. Also surviving is her brother, Michael (Lori) Cornell and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her son Michael Courtney and her sisters, Patience Swagler, Constance Deerr, Prudence Patton, and Merry Underhill.
