Marjorie “Marj” E. Hudson

October 30, 1939 - July 23, 2026

Marjorie E. Hudson, 86, of West Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Peotone, IL, passed away on July 23, 2026. Born on October 30, 1939, in Hammond, IN she was the daughter of Albert and Ruth (Mathews) Veenstra. She married Eugene ‘Rip’ Hudson on January 6^th, 1961. Together they have 3 children – Vic, Carin and Phillip ‘Duke’.

Known to everyone as Marj, she was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother who was the heart of the Hudson family.

Marj graduated from Prairie State College and began her career as a teacher at Serena Hills School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. While living in Peotone, she served as president of the Peotone Library Board for two years and dedicated countless hours to raising funds for the restoration of the town’s historic windmill.

Following retirement, the couple moved to West Lafayette, Indiana, where they found their perfect home and were blessed with wonderful neighbors. Together they enthusiastically embraced the Purdue community, attending sporting events, concerts, and lectures. Marj was a proud member of the Purdue Women’s Club for more than 20 years and formed many lasting friendships while cheering on Purdue football, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball teams.

A die-hard Cub fan, she also found great joy in gardening, needlepoint and was well known for baking chocolate chip cookies for her husband and grateful neighbors, a simple gesture that reflected her generous spirit.

Marj is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene “Rip” Hudson; her children, Vic (Laurie), Carin (Lee), Duke (Tammie); and her cherished grandchildren, Brett, Drake and Kane.

Marj’s greatest joy was her family. She celebrated every milestone, offered unwavering love and encouragement, and created a home where everyone felt welcome. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and devotion to family will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held on her birthday Friday Oct 30 at her home in West Lafayette, IN.

Rip, so sorry to hear about Marj! We have told many friends about how you came to West Lafayette after your retirement and embraced the community. Loved the years when we cheered on the Purdue men’s basketball team together.

Mrs. Hudson was one of our very best customers at the West Lafayette Wal-Mart. She was always one of our very first customers to buy new items for each upcoming season. She was a great person who always brought smiles to all of us.

Marj will be sorely missed! I’ve really enjoyed the last 20 years of PU football games and cookouts with her and Rip. They won’t be same!
