Marion M. Johnson

Marion M. Johnson, 84, of West Lafayette, died Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Lane House in Crawfordsville.

Born April 27, 1938, in Crescent City, IL to the late Martin D. Johnson and Gertrude (Gocken) Johnson- Leiding. He was a graduate of Crescent-Iroquois High School in Crescent City, Illinois and a 1966 graduate of Marycrest Business College in Kankakee, IL. Marion worked as an accountant for Lehigh Stone Company in Kankakee, IL. and served in the Illinois National Guard for six years. On October 7, 1967, he married Frances Schultz-Webster in Bradley, IL.

Upon moving to Lafayette in 1972, he worked for several businesses before joining Lafayette Wire Products in 2001 as controller and continued to work part-time until retirement. He was a member of Covenant Evangelical Church and the John Purdue Club. He was also a member of the Lafayette Elkes #143, where he enjoyed golfing, bowling, volunteering, and serving as Chairman of the Scholarship Committee for several years. He was an avid sport fan, especially Purdue Basketball and Football, Indianapolis Colts, and the Chicago Bears.

He also enjoyed reading and traveling. Above all, he cherished time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.

Along with his wife, Frances Jean; he is survived by his daughter, Jill (Cory) Kottkamp; 4 grandchildren, Justin (Stephanie) Kottkamp, Sarah (Jay) Rhoads, Alexa (Stevie) Stewart, and Cole Dunbar; 7 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Paula Schultz; and sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Mike Gerkin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Gertrude, and his daughter, Susan Dunbar and his sister Marie Brown.

Memorial contributions in Marion’s name may be given to the Susan Johnson-Dunbar Memorial, Riley Children’s Hospital, 702 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202.

Visitation from 2:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Soller-Baker, West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette, IN 47906 with Mr. Sam Newton officiating.

Inurnment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
