Margaret A. Mitchell, 85, of Lafayette died Friday, March 20, 2015 in her home. She was born June 23, 1929, in Watseka, IL, to the late Lawrence J. Ford and Gertrude M. Graeber Lowrey. Margaret graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School and attended Purdue University. On June 25, 1949 she married Eugene D. Mitchell in Lafayette and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2013. Prior to her retirement in 2003 from Purdue University, Margaret had worked at National Homes Corp. for over 20 years. Margaret was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and was a devoted advocate of the Holy Rosary. She enjoyed doing ceramics, baking, listening to all types of music and genealogy. Margaret was a mother of heart and enjoyed sharing family traditions with her 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Surviving are her children Jacqueline J. Mitchell, Joni C. Cutter, Jane A. DeVoss all of Lafayette, Julie M. West of Indianapolis and James P. Mitchell (Lisa) of Englewood, OH. Also surviving are her sisters Jacqueline E. Bailey (Robert) of Carmel, Carol S. Oaks (Larry) of Rossville, a brother Thomas Ford (Barbara) of Las Vegas and several nieces and nephews. A brother Lawrence “John” J. Ford Jr. and a sister Patricia “Pat” J. Porta preceded her in death. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Rosary will be at 10:00 AM Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday at St Lawrence Catholic Church. Interment will be at Meadow View Cemetery.
