Malinda F. “Linda” Simmons, 83, of Lafayette, died at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Central.
Born Sept. 6, 1927, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Ora C. and Mary M. Roberts Neese.
On Dec. 8, 1945, she married James R. Spoor, and they later divorced. On July 12, 1975, she married Bill Simmons, and he died on Oct. 22, 1996.
Mrs. Simmons had worked at Mechanics Laundry, formerly Hudlow?s, for several years before retiring in 1991.
She attended Evergreen Wesleyan Church and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needlework, camping, spending time with family, and going out to eat at T.C.?s and Cracker Barrel.
Surviving are five daughters, Sue Kochert (husband: Charlie) of Lafayette, Laura Hettinger (husband: Fred) of West Lafayette, Phyllis Anders (husband: Tom) of Logansport, Anna Skelton (husband: David) of Crestview, Fla., and Jenny Young (husband: Dave) of Logansport; two sons, Ron Spoor (wife: Doris) of Dorchester, Mass., and Bill Spoor (wife: Cindy) of Logansport; and a brother, Richard Neese (wife: Mabel) of Manhattan, Ind.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Hans Goemmer. Malinda was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Marie Spoor; a grandson, Nicholas Spoor; a brother, Tom Neese; and a sister, Lois Dotson.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the 11 a.m. service today, Nov. 2, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, the Rev. Joseph Park Jr. officiating.
