Madonna Evangeline (nee, Bertha) Finfrock (93) peacefully left this world on January 17, 2023, at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital.
She was born February 20, 1929, in Lafayette, Indiana. She was the daughter of Walter George Bertha and Marie Agnes (Weisbecker) Bertha. She was a member of St. Boniface Church in Lafayette. She attended St. Francis High School and graduated from Kentland High School in 1948. Afterward, she graduated from Huffer’s Beauty College. She worked as a hairdresser which is where she met her husband of nearly 40 years, Raymond K. Finfrock. They married on November 26, 1953, after exchanging love letters while Ray served in the Korean War. Donna was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
Donna worked hard to support her family over the years. Her places of employment included Warren Paper, Andover’s, Purdue University, Crown Laundry, Lafayette Tent and Awning, Tippecanoe Upholstery, and St. Elizabeth Hospital.
She was an excellent seamstress having made her wedding dress, and several dresses for her granddaughters and their dolls. She also quilted blankets for her grandchildren. Donna enjoyed crocheting, making crafts, collecting keepsakes, and watching her soap operas with Ray. Her love for her family was her finest attribute.
After the death of her husband, Donna lived with her daughter’s family for 22 years until her passing. In that time, she lived in Texas and Ohio. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 2006. She traveled to many places, indulged in sweets, and loved spending time with family.
It has been said that we are all on a journey, and as we go, we leave good or bad. Our actions and histories stand as an example to others; others can look upon our works as a source of hope. We can look to the past to give ourselves direction in future choices we will make. In turn, these paths in life stand as a monument to our character. Donna understood how our choices in life determine how we are remembered for generations. She will lovingly be remembered by her family as a special lady that always tried to make good choices and was a strong example to her family and those around her. She was a kind and caring person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond Finfrock, and her sisters Adelaide Viola King, Sr. M. Monica Bertha (formally Camilla Ernestine Bertha), Mary Coletta Bertha, and Rosella Bernadette Bertha. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandson Cody Finfrock.
Donna is survived by her children, Kenneth Finfrock (Penny) of Lafayette, Indiana and Judith Wolter (Herbert) of Norton, Ohio. Grandchildren, Ryan Finfrock (Deanna), Patrick Finfrock (Heidi), Tara Striegal (Kevin), Jennifer Marie Murphy, Jennifer Nuara Brown (Chris), Victoria Wolter (Rachael), Diedre Santovin (Paul), and Kimberly Manuel (Kevin). Great-grandchildren Nolan Finfrock, Ashley Finfrock, Kelsey Dunn (Andy), Chase Lewark, Maccoy Finfrock, Kadessa Mardis, Joey Nuara, Julianne Nuara, McKenzie Brown, Grey Brown, Ethan Brown, Kaydin Santovin, Kennedy Manuel, Karlie Manuel, Nolan Wolter, Kora Manuel, and Charlotte Wolter.
