Lyle F. Albright

Lyle Frederick Albright, 89, of West Lafayette, died at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Westminster Health Care.
He was born May 3, 1921, in Bay City, Mich.,and was the son of the late William and Isabel Sidebotham Albright. He graduated from Bay City High School and received a B.S.E. in 1943, M.S. in 1944 and Ph.D. in 1950, all from the University of Michigan.
On March 4, 1950, he married Jeanette VanBelle in Ann Arbor, Mich., and she died May 25, 2008.
Mr. Albright worked for Dow Chemical Co., in Midland, Mich., from 1939 to 1941; E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., Manhattan Project for production of plutonium, at Hanford, Wash., from 1944 to 1946; Colgate-Palmolive Co., Jersey City, N.J. from 1950 to 1951. He then consulted with many companies. From 1955 till his death he was professor of chemical engineering at Purdue University, making emeritus status in May 1991. Prior to coming to Purdue University, he was on the ChE faculty at the University of Oklahoma from 1951 to 1955. He also was a visiting professor at University of Texas in 1952 and Texas A&M in 1985. During those years, he directed over 110 graduate students and 8 post-doctoral individuals. His scholarly contributions included some 231 articles in archival journals and a recently published 2009 book, Albright&s Chemical Engineering Handbook
He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, American Institute of Chemical Engineers since 1948 serving on the board of directors, Speakers Bureau and Accreditation visitor to 10 ChE schools. Mr. Alrbright was a Magician and member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians since 1937. He was a swimmer, sailor and vegetable and fruit gardener.
Surviving are his daughters, Christine Albright (husband: Lawrence Gill) of Chicago, Ill., and Diane Albright of Crestwood, Mo.
Also surviving three grandchildren Cynthia Gill, Pamela McCullough and Brian Gill, six great grandchildren Darby and Una Haller, Lauren and Caroline McCullough, Riley Sue and Connor Gill, nephews Bernard, Christopher and Lewis Albright,Matthew and Morgan Springer, Erin and Sean Daly and a niece Leslie Choate., sisters-in-law, Stella Springer and Eleanor Daly. Preceded in death by brothers Bernard and Wayne Albright, and sister Bernice Albright.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, West Lafayette. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donation be given to Lafayette Urban Ministry, American Diabetes Association, St. Andrew United Methodist Church.
