Lucille Gean Lange

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Lucille Gean (Fine) Lange, who joined her beloved husband of 64 years, Harold E. Lange, on September 21, 2026. Lucille was born on December 6, 1931, to Daniel Hubert Fine and Fern Viola (Koepping) Fine. Lucy was, in the truest sense, a loving mother, true friend and everyone’s favorite aunt, always welcoming her family and friends with joy and excitement.

Lucy is survived by her loving son, Rodger E. Lange. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Lucy in death were her daughter-in-law, Judi (Linder) Lange, her siblings Carol Junior, Frederick Franklin, William James, Oris Lee, Lena May, Lester Jackson, Versa Marie, John Hubert, Perlina Belle & Josephine.

Lucy was a typical Fine… she had the gift of gab and could make friends with just about anybody. She grew up in English Lake, Indiana and was the first in the family to graduate high school from San Pierre High School class of ’49. After graduation she went on to beauty school. She was a nurturer, even back then, assisting with her younger siblings and later assisting with her nephews and nieces. Her roots remained tied to the small town communities of Starke County.

Lucy married Harold on June 20, 1952, and together they built a life in Lafayette, Indiana, raising their son, Rodger. Lucy and Harold spent their years together, until Harold’s passing, in 2016 at the age of 93, enjoying extensive world travel and adventures in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, as well as most of the USA. They were avid RV’ers and true fans of Indy style racing, meeting racers and new friends while attending many an Indy 500. Lucy was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary VFW post 1154 and also active in the American Legion. Lucy and Harold enjoyed bowling, Euchre, and an occasional slot machine while enjoying a can of beer. Lucy worked for many years and retired from Target in Lafayette.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Soller Baker Funeral Home 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, Indiana. Immediate family: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Visitation until time of service: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Interment to follow.
