Loyd Gene Philpott

Loyd Eugene (Gene) Philpott, 65, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at IU Health Arnett Hospital. 

He was born July 2, 1952. The eldest of six children by Lloyd E. Philpott and Virginia A. Philpott (Helmerick).

Gene graduated from Southwestern High School, class of 1971. He served in the U.S. Army after graduation, then was employed at Twin City Dodge from 1973 – 2016 as an Auto Technician, where he amazed people with his auto diagnostic skills. All his life, he loved anything with an engine. He was an excellent provider for his beloved family and enjoyed attending his kids’ school events.

He married his sweetheart, Wanda Morris, on June 22, 1973, and they raised four beautiful children, Michael Andrew (Andy), Jody Lee, Stacy Renée, & Tracy Jean.

Gene possessed a quick wit and made rapid-fire conversation. He never knew a stranger and made friendships everywhere he went. He was always willing to share knowledge and lend a hand to friends and family alike.

He is survived by his wife Wanda, son Andy (fiancé, Cori Lee), daughter Tracy, and  grandchildren, Lena Nichole Philpott, Juliana Faye Davis, & Zoie Renée DeVoss. Also, survived by his father, brothers Dean (Deb) Philpott, Bill (partner Leatha Owen) Philpott, Scott (Cindy) Philpott and sister Valerie (Bob) Guenther.  Gene was preceded in death by his sister Cynthia Dawn, mother Virginia, daughter Stacy, and son Jody.  Words can’t express how greatly Gene will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd.  Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Drew Humphrey officiating.  Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
