Lonnie L. Halsema, 68
DELPHI ? Lonnie Lee Halsema, 68, of Delphi, died at 5:58 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in his residence.
Born Oct. 16, 1941, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Homer and Gladys Neal Halsema.
He attended St. Lawrence Grade School and Lafayette Jefferson High School.
On Dec. 14, 1958, he married Nita Granger, and she survives.
Mr. Halsema worked as a truck driver for Irving Concrete Products for more than 30 years.
He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Shirley L. Ahart (husband: Kenneth) of Almo, Ky. and Dawn Doane (husband: David) of Lafayette; two sons, Frank L. Halsema (companion: Brenda Wilson) of Lafayette and Lonnie Halsema Jr. (companion: Tammy Halsema) of South Bend; a brother, Homer “Hop” Halsema (wife: Patty) of Lafayette; and two sisters, Peggy Alsop of Lafayette and Carolyn Pruitt of Brookston.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Amber, Samantha, Eric, Alesha, Destiny and Patience; and 2 great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a son, Troy A. Halsema in 1984, and a sister, Valli Welborn.
A memorial visitation will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at the Vinton Woods Club House, 3400 Cedar Lane in Lafayette.
