Linda L. Hoffine, 80, of Lafayette passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born November 18, 1945, in Lafayette to the late Shellie Willard and Hazel M. (Davenport) Dagley. Linda spent her younger years growing up in Otterbein, graduating from Otterbein High School in 1964. Following graduation Linda and her family moved to the Klondike area where her family successfully bred, raised, and showed American Quarter Horses. She was a member of Chalmers Community Church.
Linda worked in the Bursars Office and at Purdue Education of Psychology. While riding and showing horses, Linda’s brother, Robert introduced her to the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” Hoffine. The two fell in love and after a year of courtship, Tom proposed to Linda in August of 1965 and then the couple married in January 1966 and remained devoted to each other for 60 years.
Linda and Tom moved to West Lafayette where they raised their 2 children as well as running the family business, Hoffine’s Garage and Body Shop. After retiring, Tom and Linda enjoyed traveling, ultimately buying a spot where they spent winters in Florida. Linda enjoyed trail riding in the fall at Brown County State Park, playing cards with friends, taking care of her beautiful flowers and always ensured the birds were fed. Linda also had a great memory, never forgetting a birthday or someone’s favorite treat. She was fashion forward in her classy style and no one could do laundry like she could. Above all else, she cherished being surrounded by her family, including when she left this world for her Heavenly home. Her family was her happiness and joy.
Along with her husband, Tom, she is survived by her 2 children, Mike (Angie) Hoffine and Shellie (Troy) Muller; 6 grandchildren, Cassy Hoffine, Jacob (Stephanie) Hoffine, Kortney (Nate) Blye-Johnson, Chloe Hoffine, Ty Muller, and Claire (Baylor) Evans; 7 great-grandchildren, Hazel, Thomas, Grace-Ann, Charolette, Michael, Archie and Kipp; 2 sisters, Carolyn Marsell and Alice Kay; and a special niece (who was more like a daughter), Dawn Beaty.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Shell and Hazel Dagley and a brother, Robert Dagley.
