Lila Mae (Matheys) Hills
Born May 22, 1930 in Two Rivers, WI, to the late Joseph D. and Anna M (Ducak) Matheys. Lila graduated valedictorian from Washington High School in Two Rivers, WI in 1948. She married Eugene G. Hills on July 26, 1952 at St. Lukes Catholic Church in Two Rivers. Lila was secretary to the vice-president of the Research Dept. of Hamilton Mfg. Co. in Two Rivers from 1948 to 1953. From 1969 to 1984 she was the manager and president of Evergreen Credit Union in Menasha, WI (formerly known as the Wisconsin Tissue Employees Credit Union). After moving to West Lafayette, IN in 1990, Lila was recognized locally by the St. Elizabeth Hospital Gift Shop where she volunteered for over 20 years. She also was a member of the St. Elizabeth Auxiliary, the Elks Auxiliary, and Treasurer of the 9 Hole Elks Lady Golfers for many years.
Lila loved sports, especially bowling and golf. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles plus reading and crocheting kept her busy when she wasn’t watching or attending Purdue football and basketball games. Lila also enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting family.
Surviving, besides her husband of 71 years, are two daughters and two sons. They are Sandra Hills of Oconomowoc, WI, William (Mary) Hills of Phoenix, AZ, Rick (Elaine) Hills of Oconomowoc, WI and Patti (Mark) Probst of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Paul (Gina), David (Punam) and Jacqueline (Fiancé Patrick Edwards) Hills; Ali and Ryan (Allyson) Probst; Joseph, Nathan, Tess and Jeanie Hills. Also, four great grandchildren: Gianna, William, Benjamin and Naya Hills. Lila is also survived by her brother Lyle (Carol) Matheys of Harps Lake, WI, sister-in-law Alana Matheys of Woodbury, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
Lila was preceded in death by an infant brother Harold, her parents, a sister Mary Ann Matheys, and brothers: Gerald (Mary), Donald (Adeline) and Raymond (Carol) Matheys.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 2224 Sacramento Ave, West Lafayette, IN 47906. A dinner will follow at the conclusion of Mass.
Memorial Donations may be made in Lila’s name to either the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in West Lafayette or the National MS Society.
