I met Lena through her niece Anne Lucietto. It was during one of the several hurricanes that hit New Orleans over the past years that Anne was in a phone call discussion with her Aunt Lena. She got me on the call, and we listened to her concerns about the dogs and her husband as the storm approached and later during the long aftermath of the storms. Of course, Anne was doing what she could from here in Indiana. What a pleasure to meet Aunt Lena. She was so articulate and she fully realized that she needed her family’s help. Over the next few months, they would have several other calls, and ask me to join in. After she and her husband moved to Indiana, I had several visits with her. She had the spark of desiring to learn about the world, languages, using an iPad, and finding her way around her new home. I feel privileged to visit this amazing lady who had lived so long and had so many stories to share.

We met Aunt Lena in 2023 when she started her new chapter in West Lafayette IN. She has always been a joy to be around and share meaningful conversations in English and French :) I’m also a foreign language educator so we always had something to talk about. Lena told me much about her beloved husband Richard, how they met, how they shared life in different parts of the US. I asked her about her childhood in Chicaaaaagooo (I love how she pronounced it) . She loved reminiscing about her brothers. Once we realized that despite a crazy age difference we both love Frank Sinatra so we spent some time listening to him. She enjoyed our walks around neighborhood and the pond with a fake swan. We rocked the game of bingo and she never left without a prize. We also shared the love for good hot tea with milk and chocolates. She enjoyed seeing our kids and she even witnessed my latest pregnancy and held my baby daughter. She loved her dogs and her toy dog Toto. She is a very respectful and accurate woman I had a pleasure to know and talk to. I’m gad she left without much pain. I hope Lena rests in peace. Hugs to all her closest people , kids , and please express your gratitude to her niece Anne Lucietto who made sure Aunt Lena had everything and even more than she needed during her latest years in Indiana. Friends Deliya and Yury

You will sorely be missed here, aunt Lena. At least now you will be reunited with your brother and your husband who have been waiting for you, until God called you saying it is time, for going to see them in heaven, for eternity. Thank your for our visits in the past, and lovenly corrected with our grammar when we sat and talked over a cup of tea. Always the teacher. Lol. But always enjoyed. Keep a cup of tea ready for us , for when God calls it is our time,to all be reunited again. Love Peter.
