Laurence N. Merrell, 61, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at his home from complications of heart disease. He was born February 2, 1963, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Robert and Patsy (Fultz) Merrell.
Laurence graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1982 and served in the US Marine Corps. On November 7, 2023, he married R. Nadine Carlson in Lafayette and she survives.
Laurence worked at Fairfield Manufacturing and Ross Gear retiring in 2020. He was a member of the NRA and attended Gathering Point Church in Dayton.
Laurence enjoyed motorcycle riding and spending time with his family. He liked discussing faith and politics with friends and family. Laurence was the life of the party.
Surviving along with his wife is his son Dustin R. Merrell of Lafayette and grandson Derek R. Merrell. Also surviving are his sisters Joyce (Mike) Schimmel, Kelly (Paul) Spitznagle all of Lafayette, uncle Floyd Fultz of Lafayette, sister-in-law Nancy J. Bowen of Frankfort, his best friend John Shoemaker of Brookston and many nieces and nephews. Laurence was preceded in death by his son Derek J. Merrell.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until the time of the service will be at 7:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Private interment will be at IOOF Cemetery in Delphi.
