Larry W. Underhill

Larry Wayne Underhill, 65, of Lafayette, died at 12:10 p..m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 23, 1944, in West Palm Beach, Fla, to Madeline McClatchey Underhill of Lafayette and the late Charles Wayne Underhill, moving to Lafayette when he was two. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1963.
On Feb. 24, 1973, he married Linda Hetrick at Locust Grove and she survives.
Mr. Underhill was a West Lafayette firefighter for 32 years before retiring in 1997 then went to work for Tippecanoe Community Corrections as a surveilence officer and was promoted to road crew director before retiring in 2009.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, NRA, International Firefighters Association and enjoyed working outdoors, showing classic cars, fishing, woodworking, canoeing, antiques and his dogs.
Surviving with his wife and mother are a son, Chris Underhill of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a daughter, Michelle McCallister (husband: Jeff) of Smyrna, Tenn.; a brother, Denny Underhill, and a sister, Sandy Aubey (husband Joe), both of Lafayette.
Also surviving are a grandson, Landon McCallister; a sister-in-law, Luann Douglas (husband Bob); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a niece, Kelly Lynn Crowell.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette. A private graveside service will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery, the Rev. Dwight Herin officiating. Those wishing may contribute to the charity of choice. The family request casual attire at the visitation.
