Larry J. Sturgeon, 75, of West Point, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at IU Health Arnett Hospital. He was born November 11, 1947, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late John Frank Sturgeon and Dorothy (Sekama) Fain. Larry graduated from Southwestern High School in 1965 and on July 2, 1967, he married Gloria “Mikey” Sullivan in Lafayette, and she survives.
Larry worked for Eli Lilly Company for 37 years and drove a school bus with Tippecanoe County School Corporation for 40 years.
He was a volunteer fireman with Wabash Township Fire Department and West Point Fire Department for a total of 51 years.
He was a member of Illiana Power and Steam Association, Volunteer Fireman Association, International Llama Association, Hoosier Llama and Alpaca Association. Larry enjoyed building live steam engine, HO train displays, reading Louis L’Amour books, collecting antique tractors, camping, NASCAR, raising and showing llamas, alpacas and Samoyed dogs.
Surviving along with his wife are his daughters Robin L. Sturgeon, Karen J. (Greg) Page all of West Point. Also surviving is his brother Lanny D. Sturgeon of Lincoln, RI, nephews Chris and Tommy Sturgeon and a niece Beth Sturgeon, stepbrother Danny Street, stepsister, Kathy Bright and two half-sisters Mary and Myrtle Sturgeon.
Larry was preceded in death by his stepfather James B. Fain and a sister Janet Sturgeon.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the time of the service at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Rev. Andrew Guthrie officiating.
