Larry Haynes, 89, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on July 23, 2023. Larry was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on January 19, 1934, and was the son of Charles C. Haynes and Mary A. Martin. He married Carol Klinker April 24, 1970, who passed away in 2021. Larry and Carol were married an amazing 51 years.
Larry graduated from Jefferson High School in 1952. After high school Larry worked at Haywood Publishing Company from 1952–1956. Then, at Lafayette Printing Company from 1956 until retirement in 1998. That’s 46 years in the business! If you had something printed, back in the day, you might have known Larry Haynes.
He was a past member of the Eagles Club and was also involved with singing. He sang in a barbershop chorus and also with the Ambassadors. He won Barbershoper of the Year in 2006. If you enjoyed barbershop music, back in the day, you might have known Larry Haynes.
When Larry wasn’t working or singing he was probably bowling. Larry was an avid bowler, and a 50-year member of the Independent Bowling League. There are too many trophies in the closet to try and count. He won the all left handed team tournament in 1956. If you bowled, back in the day, you might have known Larry Haynes.
When Larry wasn’t working, singing or bowling, he might have been enjoying an occasional cocktail. If you drank Sterling, Fallstaff, Falls City, Red White and Blue, Hamms, old style, etc., back in the day, you might have known Larry Haynes.
Larry served in the National Guard from 1952-1960. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, music shows, watching TV westerns, the Bears win it all in 1985 and the Cubs in 2016. They were also known to occasionally visit a casino.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Carol, a son, Rick Haynes and a stepson, Mark Klinker. Also, sisters Lois Danaher, Peggy Mikels and Margie Vanostran. Brothers Robert Haynes and Richard Haynes.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Haynes and wife Carol of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Matt Haynes of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Two stepsons, James Klinker and wife Debra of Lafayette, Indiana, and David Klinker and wife Michelle of Cameron Park, California. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Larry will be missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. A private service was held on Thursday July 27, 2023 at St. Boniface Cemetery, Lafayette, Indiana.
