Kieu D. Vi, 66, of Lafayette died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born October 30, 1954 in Bentre, Vietnam to the late Trieu Vi and Thanh Thi Le and was one of 13 children. Kieu attended school in Vietnam and served in the South Vietnamese Army. Kieu married Van Ly in 1978 surrounded by family members and friends. Making his journey to the United States in 1983, he settled in a new land where he started to learn a new language and way of life. Separated from his wife and two young girls for over seven years, Kieu worked various jobs to support his family back in Vietnam. Kieu was reunited with his wife and daughters in 1990 and expanded the family with two strong boys in the States.

Kieu enjoyed fishing and camping. He also loved to eat various Vietnamese cuisines and Asian dishes.  He liked to snack on peanuts and cashews. Kieu loved his wife’s Vietnamese Pho and Banh Mi sandwiches. He enjoyed working around the house and gardening.  His favorite shopping trip was to Menards.  Kieu had an infectious smile and loved to laugh.  Kieu loved to travel with his wife and especially liked visiting Little Saigon in Orange County, CA and the beaches of Michigan City, IN.  His closest friends of over 20 years are Chouane, Nancy, Bang, and Lan, and his favorite past-time was when they got together over great food and laughter. Above all, Kieu cherished his family and friends and the time he spent with them.

Kieu is survived by his wife, Van; 2 daughters, Hanna Vi and Cuong Kim (Brett) Vi-Zook, both of Lafayette; 2 sons, Kevin (Kim) Vi and Joey Vi, both of Lafayette; and 2 grandchildren, Jayden and Isabella Zook.  He is also survived by several brothers and sisters, living in England, Germany, and Vietnam.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, IN 47909 with Minister Noah Hood officiating.

Interment will follow at Meadow View Cemetery, 3733 Poland Hill Rd., Lafayette, IN 47909.
