Kevin Michael Smith

Date of Death: February 21, 2010

Kevin Michael Smith, 46, of West Lafayette, died unexpectedly at noon Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Indianapolis, while on drill with the Army National Guard.
Born April 28, 1963, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was the son of Jack P. Smith (wife: Doris I. Walker-Smith) and the late Virginia Franklin Smith.
He served in the Air Force from Aug. 10, 1984 to Aug. 10, 1986 and reenlisted in the Army National Guard, where he was currently serving. He earned his bachelor?s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University in 1988.
On July 28, 1990, he married Yvonne Ferreyra in West Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. Smith worked as a database administrator at Purdue University for the past two years.
He was a member of Church of the Blessed Sacrament and enjoyed reading, investing, politics, playing chess, fitness, practicing Bujinkan, and playing video games with his daughters.
Surviving with his wife and father are two daughters, Micayla A. Smith and Arianna R. Smith; and his sister, Kimberly A. Smith of Gap, Pa.
Visitation open to the public will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, with a military flag presentation ceremony at 7:30 p.m. at Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 2224 Sacramento Drive, West Lafayette, IN 47906. The family will hold a private funeral mass with Fr. David Buckles officiating. Those wishing may contribute to the American Heart Association at 3816 Payspear Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your husband, father and son. I got to know Kevin last summer on our trip for Micayla&s birthday to Indiana Beach and enjoyed his intellect and sense of humor and especially his sense of reality. That day was very fun for me, Daren and especially Julie.

I also enjoyed the evening you were kind enough to invite Matt and I to have dinner (wonderful spaghetti with all the fixin&s) a few months ago when we were in town. Once again, the camaraderie and conversation was very fun.
