Celebrating the Victory over death Kenneth Theodore Truelsen 80, passed away Nov. 12, 2015 and is now celebrating his victory over death in his Savior Jesus Christ, He was born March 23, 1935 at Gilmore City, Iowa to the late Daisy Cirks Truelsen and Chester Truelsen. Kenneth was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church Lizard Lake, Iowa. He started school in a country school near Gilmore City. Iowa. When he was 8 his family moved to a farm North of Rolfe, Iowa. He attended grade and high school at Des Moines Township Consolidated School, near Rolfe, graduating in 1953. He was confirmed at Nain Lutheran Church, Rolfe. While in high school he participated in FFA, baseball, basketball, band, orchestra, and vocal music. After graduation he attended Dana College, Blair, Nebraska for one year. He then entered the United States Army in 1954 and served two years. After being honorably discharged he enrolled at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, graduating with a degree in Agronomy in 1958. He married, Jeanie Henderson Nov 4, 1956 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Rolfe. They celebrated 59 years of marriage this past Nov. 4th. He worked as Assistant Manager at the Co-Op Elevator, Mt. Union, Iowa for one year. He then took a position with Funk Seeds International, Belle Plaine, Iowa working his way from Field manager to Plant and Production manager. He served in several positions on church boards including chairman of the congregation at First Lutheran Church. He was active in the community, serving as chairman the first year of the Lions Club 4th of July celebration. Kenneth served on the Belle Plaine school board for several years. In 1984 the family moved to West Lafayette, Indiana. Kenneth worked for Ag Alumni Seed Association, Romney, IN for seven years. He then took a position with Kirkoff Brothers Seeds. His last job before retirement was Maintenance Manager and head custodian at St. James Lutheran Church and School in Lafayette, where he was a member. Kenneth enjoyed woodworking and watching his favorite sports teams. Always a Yankees fan. Kenneth is survived by his wife Jeanie, his four children Mark Truelsen, (Kathy) Cloverdale California, Ann Bartachek (Don), Belle Plaine , Iowa, Lynn Guinn (Roger) Burlington, Indiana and Rev. Christopher Truelsen (Erin) Brownsburg, Indiana. Nine Grandchildren Amanda Plue (Josh), Amy Cheesman (Ike) Alexandria Truelsen, Trevor Thompson, Brady Thompson (Tori) Michelle Armiger (Josh), Kyle Bartachek, Gannon Guinn, and Megan Truelsen and ten great grandchildren, his sister Karen Kerns, Omaha, Nebraska, and eight nieces and nephews and their families, as well as special family friends Stephanie Kunz and Olivier Haefliger and family. Visitation will be Sunday Nov. 15, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN, 47909. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Monday, Nov.16, 2015, at St. James Lutheran Church, 800 Cincinnati St., Lafayette, IN, 47904. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or St James School in Kenneth's memory.
