Kenneth L. Williams, 73
Kenneth Lloyd Williams, 73, of Lafayette, died at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Heritage Health Care in West Lafayette.
Born Sept. 28, 1936, in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Harold D. Williams and Dora Louise Haag Williams. He was raised at Shadeland and during his senior year at Shadeland High School, he joined the Air Force during the Korean War. He earned his GED while in and Air Force and retired in December 1974 after 20 years service.
Mr. Williams attained the rank of technical sergeant and was a flight engineer on C-141s and C-5s. He was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious conduct during an in-flight emergency on a C-5 cargo plane. These planes flew cargo into Vietnam and brought out dead bound for Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
After his military retirement, he worked in the maintenance department of Tippecanoe School Corp., then for Idea Consultants at the Ford Motor Plant in Indianapolis.
He married Patricia Ann Edmondson on Dec. 31, 1955, and she survives.
Mr. Williams was a member of First Baptist Church in Lafayette, American Legion Post 11 and VFW Post 1154. He was a former member of the Lafayette Cloud jockeys and the GWRRA Chapter K. He enjoyed customizing cars, making and flying radio controlled airplanes and riding Gold Wing motorcycles; he collected guns and American Eagle figurines; and liked Country Music, especially Loretta Lynn.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Kenneth LeRoy Williams (wife: Connie) and a daughter, Brenda Sue Malher (husband: Larry), both of Lafayette; one brother, Harold Thomas Williams (wife: Josephine) of Shadeland; and three sisters, Donna Westfall (husband: James) of North Port, Fla., Ruth Birge (husband: David) of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Barbara Crider (husband: D. Frank) of West Lafayette.
Also surviving are a granddaughter, Cynthia A. Heide, and a great-grandson, Griffon, of Shoreview, Minn.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2010, until the service at 3 p.m. Friday, at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Peg Nowling officiating. Interment Spring Vale Cemetery.Online Condolences send to www.soller-baker.com
