Kathryn Louise Neher, 91, of Lafayette, IN died at home, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 2:18 pm, surrounded by her family.
She was born November 21, 1932, in Lafayette IN to Charles and Blanche Jones, who preceded her in death. As a 1950 graduate of Mulberry High School, Louise excelled academically and was awarded a scholarship to Ball State University in the field of Elementary Education. She graduated with honors in 1954 and received her Bachelor of Science Degree.
As a member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, she was recognized for her academic achievements by being awarded a silver scholarship ring. Following graduation, Louise joined the teaching staff at the Community Schools of Frankfort where she taught third and fourth grades at the Kyger and South Side Schools for a period of seven years.
Her marriage was to Lloyd D. Neher (surviving) on June 13, 1954, in Mulberry, IN, after 7 years of dating. The high school sweethearts were planning to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this summer with family, just like they had for their 65th anniversary five years ago.
After leaving the teaching profession, Louise devoted her life to supporting the educational endeavors and other activities of her husband, children, and grandchildren. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, assembling jigsaw puzzles, scrapbooking, living in Bradenton, FL during the winter, and spending many hours with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Louise had lived in the Lafayette area since 1960 and was a faithful member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lafayette.
Surviving are a son, Daniel C. Neher (Wife Sandra) of Kokomo, IN and a daughter, Kathy Jean Settles (husband, Scott Switalski) of Beavercreek, OH, along with 5 grandchildren, Michael, Tim (wife Kara), Corey (wife, Abby), Kayla, and Kristen Settles, 2 great-grandsons, Cameron Jay and Caleb James Settles, and 3 nephews, Charlie (wife, Libby), Jim (wife, Donna), and Mike (wife, Nina) Marshall.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Blanche Jones, and her sister, Betty (husband, Howard) Marshall of Lafayette.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until time, of service at 5:00 pm, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Soller-Baker Funeral Home & Crematory, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN, with Rev. Dr. T. J. Jenney officiating.
Interment will be at 10:00 am, Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Green Lawn Cemetery, 496 W Co Rd 200 S, Frankfort, IN 46041.
