Katherine A. Harris, 59, of Lafayette, passed away unexpectedly at 2:01 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at her residence.
She was born May 6, 1957 in Lafayette to the late Richard and Vivian (York) Simms. Katherine received her Bachelor of Science from Northern Illinois University in August of 1982. On January 30, 2010 Katherine married Bill Harris and he survives. Katherine served as the office manager at Temple Israel.
She enjoyed working with stained glass, writing poetry, cooking and planning events for family and friends and had and endless appetite in the pursuit of history.
Kathy was a caring and giving person who found beauty in the darkest of places. She was the loyalist of friends and was always concerned for the welfare of others often forsaking herself. She was beautiful both inside and out. Her friends and family will greatly miss her soft, kind, gentle demeanor.
Kathy had a special place in her heart for Maggie, her loving springer spaniel of 13 years. She found this unconditional love that she herself gave her friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, two sisters, Kaye Simms (Partner Tina M. Sheffield) of Denton, TX, and Karen Morrow of MS; a brother Kenneth Simms (fiancée Marita) of Dickson, TN; two step sons, Benjamin Harris (wife Jennifer) and Christopher Harris (wife Mary) both of Lafayette. also surviving are three grandchildren, Trevor, Brandon and Savanah Harris as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rabbi Phil Cohen officiating.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute to Almost Home Humane Society in Katherine’s name.
