Justin Kyle Hecht, 23, of Battle Ground, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Journey Care Hospice in Chicago, IL. He lost his battle with cancer but won the war over death through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Justin was born on November 13, 1995 in Lafayette to Michael and Nola (Golubiewski) Hecht of Battle Ground. Justin graduated from William Henry Harrison High School and formerly attended Purdue University studying Anthropology. He dreamed of being an archeologist.
Justin was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was an Eagle Scout and had been a staff member at both Cary Camp and Camp Buffalo for several years. He was a volunteer for Tippecanoe County Emergency Management Association (TEMA) and enjoyed camping, hiking, gaming: Warhammer 40k and Dungeons & Dragons, and attending the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon each year dressed as a fur trader. Justin was also active with 4-H for 7 years with a special interest in entomology and loved being a part of the Harrison marching band and Raider pep band playing the flute and piccolo.
Surviving with his parents are his sister Megan Hecht of Battle Ground; grandparents William & Myra Burley of Valparaiso and Buddy & Patricia Golubiewski of Chapel Hill, NC; aunts and uncles: Terry (Virginia) Golubiewski, Russ Golubiewski, Jill (Ben) Sink, Marvin (Phyllis) Hecht, and Mark (Leslie) Hecht; cousins: Ashley (Newman) Rodgers, Cheyenne Newman, Dylan Golubiewski, Ashley Cunningham, Carolanne Sink, Melody Sink, Brittany Hecht, Glenn Hecht, Colin Hecht, Shannon Riley, Kelsey Hecht; and girlfriend Emily Cadwallader.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, 615 N. 8th Street, Lafayette, IN 47901. Pastor David French officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens in West Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church in Justin’s memory.
