Judy Lynn Johnson, 66, of West Lafayette, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, at Westminster Village, West Lafayette, with her family by her side.
She was born March 25, 1956, in Bethesda, MD, to the late Richard William and Ruth Geraldine (Rowland) Johnson. She was a 1974 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, and in 2005 Judy was inducted into the Lafayette Jefferson Hall of Fame, which is the highest honor given to a graduate of Jefferson High School. Judy continued her education at Indiana University in Bloomington, graduating with “highest distinction” with a bachelor’s degree from the IU Kelley School of Business. Judy joined the Delta Gamma Sorority at Indiana and has continued to be a lifelong active member.
After surviving a critical and devastating car accident in 1980, Judy never gave up, remained a strong personality, and continued her love for life and desire to help others. Judy logged over 10,000 hours as a volunteer at Home Hospital and St. Elizabeth Medical Center – a milestone few volunteers ever obtain. Prior to Judy’s car accident, she worked in property management in Indianapolis. In 1979, she received an award from the Apartment Association of Indiana as the most promising property manager.
Judy had a strong Christian background and participated in numerous Bible studies and church services. Family was of the utmost importance to Judy, and she cherished every second spent with her sisters and their families.
Judy’s amazing allegiance to Indiana University defined her. She loved watching IU basketball and never missed watching a game with incredible enthusiasm.
She is survived by her three sisters, Karon Jobe, of Lafayette, Linda (Dan) Libertino, of Stratford, CT, and Debbie (Ron) Hinkel, of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in Judy’s name may be given to the Westminster Employee Gift Fund for the devotion and love they showed Judy, and the donation should be made out to Resident Council, c/o Employee Gift Fund Committee, 2741 N. Salisbury St., West Lafayette, IN 47906.
In addition, memorial contributions may be given to Franciscan Hospice Care, 1415 Salem Street, Suite 202W, Lafayette, IN 47904, in appreciation for their excellent care for Judy in the last month of her life, especially nurse Amanda Moore.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Marcella Tashjian-Gibbs, IU Health Arnett, for her sincere and compassionate care over the years. In addition, Judy’s sisters want to give sincere appreciation and many thanks to Westminster Village and all of the wonderful staff that became family and made such a lasting, impactful impression on Judy and her family over the past 13 years.
