Judge Warren Bergstrom Thompson, 90, of Lafayette, died at 10:32 PM Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Indiana Veterans Home.
He was born October 30, 1921, in Lafayette, to the late Mark and Gertrude Bergstrom Thompson.
He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1939, attended Dartmouth College for 1 year and took time off to serve in the Army.
He served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant, Third Army, under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, from August 21, 1943 to February 24, 1946.
After military service, he completed law school at Indiana University in 1949. He worked as an attorney with his father from 1949 until 1961. He then become a Circuit Court Judge from 1961 until his retirement in 1985. After retirment he served as a Senior Judge in Tippcanoe County and surrounding counties.
His first marriage was to Margaret Riggs in 1944 and she preceded him in death in 1981. Then on July 10, 1985 he married Mona O&Connor Franklin in Lafayette and she survives.
Judge Thompson had received 2 sagamore of the Wabash Awards and celebrated his 90th birthday in his beloved Circuit Courtroom at the Tippecanoe County Courthouse in October, 2011. His portrait hangs along with other Judges who have served there.
He was a member of the noon Exchange Club. He enjoyed antique cars, especially his treasured Avanti, going to swap meets, and was a member of the Lafayette Car Club. He loved his family very much, and was an excellent and kind step-father. He also enjoyed horses, his dogs: Fridley and Molly, and woodworking. He was a talented man, building his own home on Poland Hill.
Surviving along with his wife is a daughter, Andrea Reed of Austin, TX, two grandchildren, Deborah Reed Peel (husband John) of Dripping Springs, Texas, and Robert Reed (wife Jennifer), of Sandy, Utah, 4 great grandchildren, a step-daughter Jill Franklin-Macias (husband Javier) of Lafayetteand a step grandchild, Ian J. Macias.
He was preceded in death by a brother Alden Sayers “”Sonny”” Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at Elston Presbyterian Church, 375 Elston Road, Lafayette, IN 47909 on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Kevin Bowers officiating.
