Joyce V. Decker, 84, of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Franciscan Health East, surrounded by loving family.

She was born September 14, 1938, in Lafayette, to the late Vernon and Mary (Mast) Craig. Joyce graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1956. She also met her high-school sweetheart David Decker, who she married on September 4, 1959 at St. James Lutheran Church.

Joyce and Dave spent the early part of their marriage living throughout Indiana while pursuing their careers, raising 5 children and being involved in their churches and communities.  During this time Joyce earned her Bachelor of Science from Indiana University School of Medicine, working as a Medical Technologist for Community Hospital in Indianapolis. Joyce enjoyed baking, sewing, needle point and traveling.

At their retirement Joyce and Dave moved to Fairhope, AL where they continued an active lifestyle and enjoyed southern living for over 25-years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fairhope. They recently relocated back to West Lafayette.

Surviving with her husband Dave are their children, Jeff (Tamara) Decker, Todd (Carol) Decker, Jodi (Patrick) Hardin, Derek (Shannon) Decker and Jeremy (Raleigh) Decker as well as seven grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Judy Vargecko.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. James Lutheran Church, 800 Cincinnati St. Lafayette, IN with Pastor Peter Heckert officiating.

In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute in her name to either St. James Lutheran Church, 800 Cincinnati St. Lafayette, IN 47901 or the Alzheimer’s Association of Indiana at 9135 N. Meridian St. Indianapolis, IN 46260
