Joy Sue Gurnick, 90, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
She was born March 10, 1935, in Jonesville, VA, to the late Lon Boyd Hall and Mary (Wilder) Hall Graves.
Sue was a 1954 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. She went on to marry Robert William Gurnick in 1955 who preceded her in death. Sue then attended beauty college and worked for a short time before starting her family.
While her children were young, she was an active den mother for the Boy Scouts of America at St. Boniface Church. Sue later began driving a school bus for the Lafayette School Corporation.
Sue and Robert divorced in 1983. At that time, she began working for the City of Lafayette in the Water Works Department for several years while also working part time at Target in customer service.
After retiring from the City of Lafayette and Target, she became a school bus aid for the Lafayette School Corporation, and in addition to, she worked as a caregiver for the elderly.
She had a great love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with her family. Her passions included the pool, the beach and ocean, quilting, cooking and her monthly luncheons with her high school classmates.
Surviving are her five children, Bill (Brenda) Gurnick of Lafayette, Bob (Jennifer) Gurnick of Lafayette, Steve (Linda) Gurnick of Pine Village, Sam Gurnick of Lafayette and Cricket (Greg) Rhoda of Lafayette. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Hall and Carl Hall.
