Josephine E. (Fisher) Hege, 95, of Stockwell, passed away on July 21, 2017. She was born December 6, 1921 to the late Ross and Olga Fisher. She grew up in Stockwell and was a 1939 graduate of Stockwell High School.
Josie married Arthur O. Hege on April 27, 1940 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. He preceded her in death in 1984. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Rosary Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Stockwell Home Economics Club and Bible Study. She was politically active and served as a Lauramie Township Trustee. She was owner and operator of Hege’s Café in Stockwell and retired in 1977. Josie will be remembered for her lively spirit, her wonderful laugh and her banana cream pies. She was an incredible mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, touching many lives and loved by all.
Josie enjoyed reading, card clubs, gardening, crossword puzzles, playing Euchre, sunsets, attending Mass, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Overman of Jackson, Mississippi, Phyllis (Edward) Rusk of Bonita Springs, Florida, Mary Kay (Ron) Cahill, and Peggy Hege, both of Lafayette. Also surviving are grandchildren, A.J. (Tammy) Overman, Chris (Michelle) Overman, Penny Vaughn, Michael (Katie) Rusk, Matthew (Lisa) Hill, Amy (Roger) Rodeheaver, and Marc (Brandy) Hill and 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary (Reed) Leamon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers: Robert, Charles, Leo and Frank Fisher.
Visitation will be held at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel at 400 Twyckenham Blvd. on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with Rosary Service at 4:45. Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Tuesday, July 25 at 10:30 am followed by internment at St. Boniface Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Cathedral.
