Josephine Barrick, 84, of Lafayette, died at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Central.
She was born July 5, 1927, in Cameron, N.C., to the late Ben Mackie and Vicie Ashburn Mackie Sheffield. She graduated from Huffer Beauty College.
In 1944, she married Russell Barrick in Bennettsville, S.C. He died Oct. 5, 2010.
Mrs. Barrick was a self-employed beautician for 23 years, retiring in 1981.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and working around the house.
Surviving are two sons, William Barrick (wife: Myrna) of Lafayette, Russell Barrick Jr. (wife: Marilyn) of West Lafayette; a sister, Orene Paulus (husband: William) of Cameron: and a brother, Tommy Sheffield (wife: Linda) of Louisiana.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson Curtis Barrick.
Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the 11 a.m. service Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, the Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Those wishing may contribute to the American Cancer Society.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your parents were the best neighbors - they made me feel welcome to the neighborhood when I moved in in 1992. Both your parents were great people - we had many wonderful talks over the years. When I first moved in, my Dad helped me a lot around the house and your Mom loved talking to my Dad - they were both social people

Your Dad did not always have much to say but when he did, people listened. Your Mom never saw a stranger - her and my Dad had some great conversations.

Your Mom and I had several similar interests - we both liked gardening, flower gardening and both had two sons.

I loved your parents - they were the best. I will truly miss them both.
