Joseph F. Delaney, 66, of Lafayette, passed away at 4:48 pm Friday, May 16, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was born June 25, 1947, in Lafayette, to the late Joseph and Helen (Hemerling) Delaney. Surviving is a son Joseph Delaney IV (Amanda) of Mesa, AZ, two sisters Ann Fassnacht (Dennis) of West Lafayette and Judy Lynch (David) of St. Charles, IL, along with his two grandchildren, Joseph Rhyon and Addison Delaney. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Haley (married June 28, 1997) and a sister Mary Griffin. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1965 and attended Purdue University. Joseph served in the United States Army from September 13, 1966 to September 5, 1968. Joe retired from ALCOA after 31 years as a raw material manager. He then worked for Oscar Winski where he bought and sold aluminum and copper for 14 years before retiring. He was a member of the Moose, Eagles Lodge, American Legion Post #11 Honor Guard and VFW Post #717 in St. John, IN. He loved playing with his grandchildren and was an avid golfer. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909. A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday, May 22, 2014 at St Lawrence Catholic Church 1916 Meharry St Lafayette, IN 47904 with Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Per Joe's wishes, a private family burial will take place. Those wishing may contribute in Joe's name to St. Mathew 25 Care and Share Soup Kitchen or American Legion Post #11.
