Joseph E. Metzinger, 71, of Clarks Hill died Saturday April 6, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Central. He was born August 14, 1941, in Lafayette to the late Ernest and Bernadine Doppelfeld Metzinger. Joseph graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1959 and attended Purdue University. On October 6, 1962 he married Marilyn Jeffirs in Plymouth, IN and she survives. Joe worked at ALCOA for 14 years. He was owner of Custom Machine Shop in Lafayette for 15 years and Advanced Design and Machine in Clarks Hill for the past 21 years. Mr. Metzinger was a member of the Spirt of Life Church in Clermont, IN and was active with the Sensational Seniors at the church. He enjoyed auto racing, cooking, flying, time with family, friends and helping others along with his work. Surviving along with his wife are his children Kim Casey husband John of Fishers, Tony Metzinger of Warsaw, Angie Catron husband Rob of Lafayette, Missy Metzinger of Clarks Hill, grandchildren Michael and Bryce Catron, Tanner and Caitlin Casey, Mason and Tyler Metzinger. Also survivng are brothers Dan Metzinger of Buck Creek and Bob Metzinger wife Bobbie of Otterbein. Joseph was preceded in death by two grandchildren and his sister Mary Smith. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral Service 10:00 AM Saturday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Ed Barnes officiating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute to the American Lung Association or charity of choice.
