Johnnie W. Sanford, 91, of Wolcott, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024. He was born September 13, 1932, on the family farm in White County to the late Paris and Mary Catherine (Hufstedler) Sanford.
John attended Wolcott High School. In November 1956 John married Nadine Kerr and she survives.
John honorably served in the U. S. Army from December 1953, to November 1955, spending 18 months in Germany with the Battalion C 14th Armored Field Artillery 2nd Armored Division. John had the opportunity to go to Non-Commissioned Officer School during his time in the Army. In September 2014, John and his granddaughter, Kelly, were able to go on the Veteran’s Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., and this was a memory they will cherish forever.
Surviving John are his wife Nadine, son, Wayne (Jennifer) Sanford of Wolcott, daughters Carol Young of Lafayette, and Cheryl (Carl) Flynn of Remington. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
As John was a lifelong farmer, the family will hold a memorial service after planting season is over.
