John L. McCammon, 68
John L. McCammon, 68, of Bonita Springs, Fla., died Monday Sept. 26, 2011, at Gulfcoast Medical Center in Florida.
He was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Logansport, to the late John and Margaret Robinson McCammon. He graduated from Logansport High School in 1961 and from Indiana University 1965.
Mr. McCammon retired from Roche Laboratories in 2003, where he was pharmaceutical representative for 30 years.
On Feb. 7, 2009, he married Maxine Faye Dewitt-Stotler, and she survives.
Mr. McCammon was a member of the Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Bonita Springs. He enjoyed his time with family and his grandchildren. He was a mentor to many young children over the years in the Lafayette area whether it was in Cub Scouts or coaching baseball.
He was a member of Lafayette Kiwanis Club, Kappa Sigma Fraternity at both IU and Purdue University. He was in the Kappa Sigma Hall of Fame, Chi Chapter 2001. He enjoyed tennis after his retirement, playing on tennis leagues throughout the year with the Lighthouse Bay Tennis Teams, in Bonita Springs.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine F. McCammon, Bonita Springs; two daughters, Lisa Allen (husband: Matt) and Tracey Eckerman (husband: Andy), both of Allen, Texas; and a son, Brian McCammon (wife: Heidi) of Lafayette.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Kaitlyn & Patrick Allen, Colin & Drew Eckerman, Jonathan, Griffin and Jordan McCammon, Corey McCammon; and the mother of his children, Sally McCammon of Fairview, Texas. Preceded in death by a son, Rob McCammon in 2011.
Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, from 9-11 a.m. at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, with service there at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dr. Jacob H. Hoffman will officiate.
