John Franklin Cannaday Jr., 71, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
He was born September 20, 1952, in Muncie to the late John Franklin Sr. and Geneva L. (Bradshaw) Cannaday. He was a graduate of Delta High School and proudly earned his college degree from Ivy Tech at the age of 67. John found joy in his career as a masonry brick layer, later retiring from Purdue and Arconic.
John was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, and uncle. John’s humor and warmth touched the lives of all who knew him. He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. His favorite thing was to watch his grandchildren play sports and he rarely missed a game. He had a magnetic attraction to babies, as they always seemed to find their way into his arms. He also absolutely loved dogs and dogs loved him. It was guaranteed he would be seen petting or talking to any dog in his sight. John had a passion for playing the lottery and was convinced he had the winning ticket.
John’s love for his family, his playful spirit, and his unwavering devotion will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the joy and laughter he brought into our lives. His family and friends will help his spirit continue to live on in the cherished memories he left behind.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Helle; 2 sons, Danny Helle, Chad (Brooke) Leill, 6 grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Rileigh, Taelen, Jaidyn, and Jackson; sister, Debra (Phillip) Hart; 3 brothers, Greg (Lori) Cannaday, Steve (Barb) Cannaday, and Robert Cannaday; 5 nieces and nephews, Daniel, John, Heather, Sara, and Corey; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory may be given to Natalie’s Second Chance No Kill Dog Shelter, 10 S. 16th Street, Lafayette, IN 47905.
