John C. Corbin Sr., 71
John C. “Big John” Corbin Sr., 71, of Lafayette, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, at St. Elizabeth East.
He was born June 27, 1938, in Lafayette, to the late Dean and Mamie Wilson Corbin.
He attended St. Ann Grade School and graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School.
On March 26, 1977, he married Carolyn A. Cline in Lafayette.
Mr. Corbin worked 38 years for the City of Lafayette as an electrical inspector.
He attended Wea Ridge Baptist Church and was a member of the IBEW.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, poker, card games, hunting, fishing, playing golf and hunting mushrooms.
Surviving with his wife are five sons, John C. Corbin Jr. (wife: Nancy), Kenneth L. Corbin, Ronald E. Corbin, Dennis L. Slaughterbeck and John R. Corbin (wife: Tammi); four daughters, Peggy S. Crane (husband: Al), Sarah A. Seifers (husband: Frank Corbin), Shirley A. Byrd (husband: John) and Charlotte K. Slaughterbeck; a brother, Dean M. Corbin (wife: Debbie) of Humble, Texas; and a sister, Carol A. Gallivan (husband: Thomas) of Lafayette.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward L. Corbin and Joseph M. Corbin and a sister, Mary J. Hurt.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Funeral service 1 p.m. Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Dan Sager officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
