John A. Farrell, 85, of West Point, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at IU Health Arnett.
He was born January 18, 1939, to the late Michael and Marie (Shedrow) Farrell. He attended Lafayette Central Catholic High School and worked as a Meter Repairman for Lafayette Waterworks. On August 23, 1984, he married Ruth White. The couple were married 25 years before Ruth’s passing on April 22, 2009. John then started dating Rozanna Weaver and the two have been together 14 years.
John enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching and hunting. He also enjoyed cooking and baking. Some of the favorite foods he made were Oxtail Soup, Chop Suey, and Pies. When John was a child, he spent a lot of time at Riley Childrens Hospital being treated for polio. While there, he was taught to paint by Sister Raphine, and he won several awards for his paintings. He had a passion for painting and was an amazing artist.
Along with his companion, Rozanna Weaver, John is survived by his 2 brothers, Leo (Dot) Farrell of West Point and Dennis (Valarie) Farrell of West Lafayette; 3 step-children; several step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Farrell; parents, Michael and Marie Farrell; 3 brothers, Joe, Bob, and Charlie; and 2 sisters, Josephine and Catherine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s name may be given to the West Point Fire Department.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909.
Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 612 Wabash Avenue, Lafayette, IN 47905.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 2122 Old Romney Rd, Lafayette, IN 47909.
