Joan Goldstein, 81, artist, innovator, teacher and counselor, fighter for what is right and important, wife and mother, passed on to her place of peace on December 16, 2013. She was born November 14, 1932 in Queens, NY to Harry and Anne (Marin) Borowitz. She passed from this world at home in the company of her family after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She savored the deliciousness of life, and she passed with simple beauty, amazing color, and with memories of gentle sea breezes through palm fronds. Joan spent years as an early childhood educator, then as a full-time mother, active in social issues, especially with the League of Women Voters. She offered her counseling skills to students as head academic counselor in the Department of Computer Technology at Purdue University. She was an advocate for students and in 1996 was recognized as the University's Outstanding Academic Counselor. She was a dedicated artist, her watercolors evoking especially the beauty of the tropical scenes she so loved. She will walk the beach in peace now and she will be sorely missed by many many around the world, but especially her adoring husband David, her three sons, Dan (spouse Claire), Ted (spouse Barb) and Lon, and four grandchildren, Cyrille, Luc, Ben and Arum.
