Jay L. Mitchell, 67, of Buck Creek, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, with his wife, Karen by his side.
He was born January 24, 1956, in Lafayette to the late James E. and E. Marlene (Buck) Mitchell. Jay was a 1974 graduate of William H. Harrison High School. On June 30, 1978, Jay married the love of his life, Karen King, in Buck Creek. Since 2003, Jay and Karen owned and operated Buck Creek Pizza. And Jay coined the motto “We Build Pizzas”. Jay also worked at Rea Magnet Wire in Lafayette for 15 years.
Jay was a volunteer fire fighter on the Washington Township/Buck Creek Fire Department for over 25 years. He loved farming, golfing, and tinkering. He also enjoyed racing cars, riding snowmobiles and Four-Wheeling. Jay was a jack-of-all-trades who had a zest for life. He never stopped, he was always on the move and family members called him the “Energizer Bunny.”
Along with his wife, Karen, he is survived by 2 sisters, Jean (Jon) Randle of Delphi and Judy (Mark) Kettnich of Battle Ground; bonus son, Torry Allen; special cousins, Josh, Patty, and Kristen Buck; several other nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his 2 Bernedoodles, Jack and Jill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and E. Marlene (Buck) Mitchell and 2 brothers, Jack “Fat Jack” Mitchell and Joe “Porkchop” Mitchell.
Memorial contributions in Jay’s name may be given to Buck Creek United Methodist Church or to the Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm, Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Buck Creek United Methodist Church, 4915 Ferret St., Buck Creek. IN 47924.
