Jay Frank Shade, 92, of Lafayette, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

He was born December 18, 1930, in Brook to the late Homer Lee and Stella (Corbin) Shade. He was a graduate of Richland Township High School and Indiana Business College. He honorably served in the United States Air Force from December 1950 to December 1954. On June 28, 1959, he married Beverly Gayler in Willamsport, and she survives.

Jay enjoyed gardening and sports. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and would take his children to a Chicago Cubs game at least once a year. He also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana University, and Purdue. Jay and Beverly enjoyed traveling and have traveled to all but 3 States. Their favorite trips were to Montana to visit family, Maine, and Florida. Jay also loved his dogs and cherished time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Beverly, he is survived by his 2 children, Kevin (Niki) Shade of Kokomo and Lori (Darrall) Erb of Fort Myers, FL; his brother, John (Beverly) Shade of Kalispell, MT; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie (Bill) Douglas, Joshua Shade, Brent (Melinda) Shade, James Shade, Shawn Pechin, Stacey (Josh) Douglas, and Jessica (Eric) Pruyne; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Stella Shade and brother, Lee (Jean) Shade.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909.

Funeral services held at 10:30 am, Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909.
