Janice Lee (Erhart-Ogden) Hostetler, 80, of Lafayette, passed away, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at her home with her husband and daughter by her side.
She was born April 11, 1943, in Valparaiso, Porter County, to the late Homer DeWayne and Clara Della (Hagberg) Erhart. Following her parents’ divorce, Janice was later adopted by her step-father, Raymond Ogden. She was a 1961 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and married Gordon Hostetler in Lafayette on May 16, 1964. Janice was a Supervisor in the Computer Center at Purdue University until her retirement.
She enjoyed researching genealogy for family and friends and was the family genealogist. She also enjoyed writing the family newsletter, which included a “kids corner” and articles about family activities. Her son, Tony, had a green thumb and shared his love of flowers with Janice. She loved flowers, especially roses and lilies. In her later years, she really appreciated Tony assisting her with genealogy research.
Along with her husband, Gordon, she is survived by her daughter, Carmen Alsup; and 6 sisters, Verna Waples, Vickie McIntosh, Lynn Whitlock, Sharon Singer, Peggy Ket, and Pam Blevins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara (Hagberg) Betts, Homer Erhart, and Raymond Ogden. She was also preceded by her son, Tony Hostetler, who passed away in February 2024.
