James W. Johnson, 86
James William Johnson, 86, of West Lafayette, died at 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Regency Place.
Born June 21, 1923, in Lincolnton, N.C., he was the son of the late Edward and Berta Johnson.
Mr. Johnson served in the Army from Aug. 1, 1951 to July 31, 1971, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He later worked as an assistant manager of Cary Quad at Purdue University for several years. He enjoyed sports and reading.
On April 21, 1986, he married Sharon Reynolds Johnson in Indianapolis, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, William McIver (wife: Vicki) of Green Bay, Wis., Timothy McIver (wife: Donna) of Stockwell and Michael McIver (wife: Jackie) of Lafayette; and a sister, Nancy Blanchard of North Carolina.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Catherine, Carley, Amanda, Nicole, Andrew, Lexi, Jayden, Nicholas, Allison, Jenni, Greg and Danny; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, MeMe “Mary” Johnson.
Visitation from 2 p.m. until the Memorial Service at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, the Rev. Clayton Kendall officiating.
