Dr. James Thomas Poulos passed away on November 27, 2022, with his friends and family at bedside. He was born on April 11, 1938, in Lynn, Massachusetts to Thomas Dimitrios Poulos and Christine (Zorzy) Poulos. He graduated from Swampscott High School and Tufts University where he was an outstanding football player. While studying at Tufts, he met and married (in 1963) the love of his life, Mary (White) Poulos, who shared his life and adventures. He later graduated from Tufts Medical School in 1963 and served in the US Army. After his service, he furthered his medical training at the University of Chicago and later settled in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was an endocrinologist at the Arnett Clinic, instructed Indiana University medical students, and was president of the Indiana chapter of The American Diabetes Association. Dr. Poulos was known for his compassion to his patients, his intellect, and his superb sense of humor. James loved his family, German Shepherd Dogs, athletics, and automobiles. After moving to Indiana, he and Mary Poulos never missed going to the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. Although he loved automobiles, he did not like the resultant speeding tickets or when his son was a rat and told his wife about his driving habits.
He is preceded in death by his parents Christine and Thomas Poulos and his beloved wife Mary Poulos (March 31, 2011). He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Louizos, and son, Christopher Poulos.
Visitation will be Saturday December 3, 2022, from 12pm-2-pm at Soller-Baker Funeral Home West Lafayette Chapel 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette, IN 47906., with service to follow at 2:00 PM. PRIVATE INTERMENT at Concord Cemetery. In lieu of flowers of please make donations in James’s name to The American Diabetes Association.
