James R. Johnston, 70, of Lafayette died Monday, December 14, 2015 at St. Elizabeth East. He was born February 19, 1945, at home, in Greenhill, IN, to the late Russell and Helen Pietrowski Johnston. Jim graduated from Pine Village High School in 1965 and on June 1, 1968 he married Gala Gipson in Greenhill and she survives. Jimmy worked for Vectren for 27 years retiring on November 3, 2007 and enjoyed spending time with “The gas house gang.” He was a member of St. Paul Community Church in Linden and loved fishing, mushroom hunting and gardening. Jim was a train buff and enjoyed taking pictures of trains and building model train layouts. Jim was a kind and giving person and never met a stranger. Surviving along with his wife are his daughters Jennifer Meadows (Eric Taylor) of Dayton, OH, Julie Johnston (Will Taylor) of Biddford, ME, Keisha Johnston of Lafayette, grandchildren Corri Johnston, Jordan Meadows, Gage Johnston, Skyler Taylor and a great grandson Edward “EJ” Johnston. Also surving are his brothers Kenny Johnston (Nancy) of West Lafayette, Tony Johnston of KY and his furry children Harvey and Lola. Jim was preceded in death by a sister Linda Ritenour. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to 2:00 PM memorial service on Saturday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating.
