Jacob E. Schelle, 90, of West Lafayette, passed away at 8:47 pm Monday, June 24, 2014, at his residence. He was born December 8, 1923, in Lafayette, to the late Jacob and Ethel Rubright Schelle. He graduated from Klondike High. On January 11, 1945 He married Mary H. Jewell in Lafayette. She passed away June 16. Mr. Schelle worked for National Homes for twenty two and a half years before retiring in 1974. He then went to work for Eli Lilly and Company for over eleven years before retiring as Senior Chemical Operator in 1989. He was a member of Lafayette Christian Reformed Church and the Masonic Lodge in Battle Ground. Jacob was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Surviving are his children Donna Smith of Crawfordsville, David Schelle (Michelle) of Elkhart; a brother Charles Schelle; 4 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12:30 until the time of the Masonic service at 1:30 pm followed by the funeral on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., with Rev. Mark A. Bonnes officiating. Entombment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Jacob was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, a grandson Todd Smith and a son-in-law Richard A. Smith. Those wishing may contribute to the Todd Smith Memorial Fund C/O Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Linden, IN or the American Cancer Society.
