Jack E. Schult, beloved husband, father, educator, coach, and community leader, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on October 28th, 2025. Born September 26th, 1938, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Mr. Walter and Mrs. Mary Schult, Jack dedicated his life to shaping young minds and fostering athletic excellence.
A proud graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1956, Jack continued his education at Purdue University, earning both his Bachelors and Master of Science degrees. His passion for youth education led him to serve the Lafayette Jefferson School System for an incredible 50 years, where he was the Department Head of Health and Physical Education for 36 years and Assistant Athletic Director for 20 years.
A coach at heart, Jack guided countless student-athletes to success. He led the 1975 Boys Tennis team to a State Championship and a runner-up finish in 1976. He also played a pivotal role as an assistant coach for Lafayette Jefferson’s 1964 Boys Basketball State Champions, the 1967 Boys Football State Champions, and the 1973 Boys Baseball State Champions. His impact on Indiana athletics was recognized with his induction into the Indiana Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Lafayette Jefferson High School Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2017, he was honored with the Distinguished Hoosier Award from Governor Eric Holcomb.
Beyond his contributions to education and sports, Jack was a devoted member of the John Purdue Club, Purdue Alumni Association, Lafayette Jeff Boosters Club, the Lafayette Country Club, and the Boys & Girls Club of America, where he served as president in 2007.
Jack enjoyed collecting antique memorabilia, meeting his friends for a round of golf, and was an ardent fan of Frank Sinatra. He also had a unique connection to Hollywood, appearing as an extra in films such as Hoosiers, 8 Men Out.
He is survived by his loving wife, R. Susan (Harris), and his daughter, Jacqueline Sue (Joshua) Miller.
Jack’s legacy will live on through the many lives he touched as a teacher, coach, and mentor. His dedication, wisdom, and passion for life will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette.
